I'm opening this ticket now as I've finally found the first bug - for non-Windows builds, ECONNRESET is not considered a known error - see src/kvilib/core/KviError.cpp, KviError::translateSystemError - I have added On some systems listening in the IPv6 namespace allows to accept also IPv4 connections (this includes Linux but not windows afaik). Check the destination address you are using. The solution, of course, is to dial up Mary or (Jane, or Helga, etc.) directly.

You can verify that the remote system is rejecting your connection attempt by checking the network statistics locally. It's also possible that the local services file has an incorrect port number (although it's unlikely).
